Painting Guadalajara Green on March 17th
Irish Mexican Chamber Members, friends and the great and good of Guadalajara gathered on St. Patrick’s night in the historical Edificio Arróniz Topete to celebrate all things Irish but also to raise money to support Monumental Clubhouse Guadalajara, in partnership with Fundación Iyari Alba. IMC Member John Tobin of QTech and his group of volunteers and patrons including IMC Founder Members Casa Cuervo put together an amazing gala night of Irish music and dance, the best of food from Guadalajara restaurants, all washed down with Bushmills whiskey from Casa Cuervo.
Guests were treated to an exhibition of Wixárika (Huichol) art and bid on prizes including a 21 year old Bushmills whiskey and a spectacular and unique piece of Wixárika art symbolizing the close relationship between Mexico and Ireland. David Costello, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland and Honorary Vice President of the Chamber addressed the gathering and shared his own insights on representing Ireland in Mexico.
The evening raised a total of $96,000 for the Clubhouse, reflecting the huge commitment of all involved to the event. This is a fantastic event in the Guadalajara social calendar during a week where each year Guadalajara transforms into literally a “Green” city with the Tourism Ireland “Greening” initiative lighting up key buildings in the city to mark St. Patrick’s Day. If you are in Guadalajara or nearby in 2019, make sure you don’t miss this key event in Mexico's St.Patrick's Day celebrations!
